"Delmicron' — Combination of Delta and Omicron Variants Behind Surge in Cases
As the coronavirus pandemic shows signs of a 'fresh wave', medical experts stress the urgency of mask-wearing saying it could "immediately help". A record-high infection rate followed by the introduction of full or partial lockdowns has been observed with the advent of Delmicron — a combination of Delta and Omicron variants which led to a flood of cases in parts of Europe and the US. In India, Delta remains the dominant variant as of yet, however, the uncertainty surrounding an unforeseen surge is probable.
Although the behavior of Delmicron in India remains a matter to be settled with time, the exposure is highly likely owing to the widespread circulation of derivatives of Delta variants which are rapidly being replaced by the more contagious Covid-19 variant which has effectively taken over many European countries outplacing the Delta variant.
The variant has been observed to be highly transmissible which has more chances of infecting the older population, however, there are no concretely different symptoms being noticed by the scientists and researchers as the diagnosed patients have reported nearly the same symptoms such as fever, persistent cough, loss of taste or smell and tiredness. The infected population complained of the early signs of the infection being sore throat and nasal congestion, according to the doctors and scientists in the UK and South Africa.
Some experts have also regarded the two variants functioning individually as two epidemics simultaneously. In order to curb the spread, the government is actively ensuring that there is no shortage of infrastructure in the hospitals.
